Smart beekeeping
Sensor systems, hive monitoring and decision support for everyday colony management.
An annual workshop, since 2025
Flora, Technology and Honey: Next Generation Governance in Beekeeping
How can flora data and digital tools make beekeeping more productive and more sustainable?
FLOTECH-HONEY is an annual workshop that brings together the researchers, practitioners and stakeholders working toward the future of sustainable beekeeping.
Organized under the BEE-OPTECH4Honey Project, the workshop focuses on bringing digital technologies, spatial analyses and flora mapping into modern apiculture. It explores how GIS, remote sensing, sensor systems and optimization models can raise honey production, improve hive management and optimize migratory beekeeping routes.
Each edition has its own page, with its call for papers, important dates, program and committees. This page brings the series, its editions and the current call together.
Sessions follow the path from the field to the jar, and from the jar to policy.
Sensor systems, hive monitoring and decision support for everyday colony management.
GIS, remote sensing and field surveys that map nectar plants and bloom periods.
How floral diversity shapes honey, from botanical origin to quality analysis.
Optimized migratory routes, shared digital infrastructure and policies for a viable sector.
Each edition opens on its own page. Follow the bee.
We invite researchers, practitioners and experts working on digitalization in apiculture, ecological analysis, optimization and governance-based innovation to submit their papers.
Important dates, submission guidelines and the full scope are on this year's page.
Accepted abstracts are published in the electronic Abstract Book with an ISBN. Participation is free of charge.
The scientific committee of each edition is listed on its own page. Scientific committee 2027
From the archive: 1 October 2025, online
FLOTECH-HONEY met for the first time on 1 October 2025, online on Zoom. It was hosted by Işık University, with contributions from the Ordu Apiculture Research Institute and the Apiculture Research Center of the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute.
Sessions on smart beekeeping, flora data, honey quality and policy, and a keynote on digital twins from Wageningen University & Research, set the agenda for the editions that follow.
